Learning English at high school

Learning English at high school, ops are not high school but MA

Hello, introduce my name, Siti Zulaikhah, commonly called Ika. I used to go to high school, ops were not high school but MA. My school is the Mlangi Islamic Aliyah Madrasah, a pesantren-based school. In addition to school, there I was also taught the science of religion. However, this time I was told that I would tell about how English language learning at the school was first and also how I learned English at that time.
It is no different from high school, in my school there were also English subjects and even conversation subjects. When I first entered English subjects, all students were asked to introduce themselves using English as well as me. Until it was my turn to introduce myself using English. With my makeshift abilities and with confidence I speak. The English learning model during class 10 is that the teacher lets his students read an English text that has been chosen by his teacher and some students are asked to read the text. When one or two of my friends come forward to read the text, I listen carefully word by word until it's finished. When my friend had returned to his seat, I asked how to say a few words that I did not understand and compare the pronunciation models in the dictionary. The opportunity to advance is still open to me and I read back the text that my teacher has chosen from my learning results with my advanced friends and from the dictionary that I brought.
In addition, there is also translating into Indonesian. Be it descriptive text, recount, procedure, narration and so on. And work on the questions related to these texts. In translating text it is also assessed by reading the translations / meanings of some of the texts. Even though I can't translate perfectly, I still try to translate with the dictionary that I have. Then after I finished translating, my friend helped with the way he read his own translation and I compared my translation with my friend and then I corrected it and I changed it according to the correct translation. In that way I can know which translation is right and correct. If in working on the questions, either multiple choice or essay, I still have to find out the meaning of the word that I don't know so that after I know the meaning of words or as a whole, I can only work on those questions.
Different again if the subject of conversation here more often given vocabulary both from easy to difficult, given formulas to make sentences and told to make sentences based on the formulas that have been explained. In making these sentences, I still guided the dictionary and asked what I doubt to choose a word for my friend who is better at English than me. And so I can also learn from my clever friend. Sometimes in this subject we are told to listen to a song in English and have provided a paper where the paper is written a song lyrics but there are still some words that are intentionally not written. And the task is to complete the song lyrics by writing what is heard when a song is played. Here I admit that I still can't fill the song lyrics properly because sometimes the songs played still feel strange to me. That's the learning model when I was in 10th grade.
The learning model was different when I was in 10th grade when I was in 11th grade, this was because the teacher who taught when I was in 10th grade only taught specifically in the 10th grade. Thus different teachers teach. However, the system / learning model is almost the same, which distinguishes here, that is, there is not much more to translate the text, either description text, narrative, etc. And read the text before the teacher. In this class, the focus is more on the problem training, whether it's multiple choice or essay. And the assessment is taken from the truth of the workmanship. Just like when I was in 10th grade, in this class I still needed a dictionary to translate several words that I didn't know the meaning. That way, then I can work on the questions given by my teacher. But sometimes I also ask the meaning of words that are not in the dictionary, so I also ask the meaning of the sentence that I cannot understand. However, more often I try hard to capture the questions or the text given. In this class, more material is given, each material is often asked to make a text, for example, I am told to make a text procedure or something else. When making a certain text / sentence, I need a dictionary to translate into English. Because sometimes I don't understand the material so I have to ask my friends but sometimes I also ask my teacher directly. After understanding then I can start making a text or sentence. About 30 minutes before the hours of English subjects are completed, more often used to correct the problems that are done so that I know how many questions I do right. And thank God there are still many questions that I do right, but sometimes there are also many things that are wrong because in my opinion the questions are quite difficult for me. While the subject of conversation in class 11 is also more often given material as well as when learning English, the difference is we are asked to read a text that is given with one of a friend, likened here is doing a short conversation to quite long. Sometimes also before talking from the text given, asked to read the text before the teacher, if it is correct in reading it then can start a conversation with one of the friends as well as having a conversation. Besides that, sometimes they are also asked to read a text either in the form of conversational texts, narratives, etc., but are often asked to read a conversation text given from my teacher. Before my turn to read the text, when a friend of mine was reading the text in front of me, I listened carefully to how the pronunciation was correct because sometimes my teacher immediately justified the wrong pronunciation so I knew how to pronounce it correctly. But I also learned how the pronunciation was dictated and practiced it, so that I would know how the pronunciation was dictated and compared it from my study with my friend. And what I like is when there is a quiz like a crossword puzzle. Sometimes it is written on the writing board and then told to write the correct answer and sometimes also a sheet of paper containing the quiz / crossword puzzle. Yes, even though what I wrote is sometimes wrong, but it will add insight into the vocabulary that I don't know yet and that's where the vocabulary that I don't know is written in my book so that it can be used for learning like not written later I can forget.
English subjects when I was in 12th grade, the learning model was almost the same when I was in 11th grade. However, in the 12th grade this was more focused on doing problem training either multiple choice or essay, but more often told to do multiple choice questions and if there were questions a text is then told to translate first into Indonesian. The aim is to better understand what is being discussed in the text so that it can work on the questions correctly and correctly. The matter of giving material is the same as when I was in 11th grade, that is when I finished giving the material and for example, I was told to make an example like the example given from my teacher.
With the learning model that is in the 10th to 12th grade, I am required to have 4 abilities, namely speaking, writing, listening and reading. Because of the limited facilities available at schools such as the internet, loudspeakers etc., and also not being allowed to carry a cellphone did not discourage me. Thus, I don't have to look for English songs or English words / sentences, and I learn directly from my teacher or my friend who is good at speaking English or who is good at English.
When it comes to speaking English, I can't yet be as smart as my English-speaking friend. But I can learn from my friend, by imitating the style of pronunciation and response. The speaking learning system / model in my school is already quite good because here students are asked to practice conversations that have been written in front of the class.
When it comes to writing in English, I can quite because it is helped by a dictionary and sometimes my writing is checked by my friend who is good at English so I can justify if there is something wrong. And here students are required to be able to write a series of words / sentences into a text.
When it comes to listening, I admit that I still cannot get the maximum in the context of listening and then write down what I hear because of the affordability of my vocabulary. But here I am required to be able to listen well such as listening to a song then completing a few words that have not been written. And that made me and my friends trained to listen well.
When it comes to reading, I still can't read perfectly according to the reading rules in English. But I still try to be able to read perfectly by the way I learn from my friends, that is reading a sentence / text then if there are still some words that are wrong in the pronunciation of my friend justifying. And here students are required to read a text in front of the class so that it will make students harder to learn to read perfectly, well, and correctly

That's how English learning was at my school first and how I learned English at that time.
